2010 | 2011 -
In 2010 and 2011 Laxers 4 Life will partner with Cuddle My Kids to share in Cathy Gabrielsen’s DREAM to provide support to families stricken with cancer.
All proceeds from the run will be donated to Cuddle My Kids.
The idea of Cuddle My Kids evolved as Founder/Executive Director, Cathy Gabrielsen laid on the floor trying to play with her 3 and 1 year old boys, exhausted and in excruciating pain from her breast cancer treatment. She desperately needed to rest but knew caring for her young children was of primary concern. At that moment, she vowed to herself that she would do whatever she could to help other families with cancer balance their recovery with nurturing their young children. Cuddle My Kids currently serves families in the suburban counties of Philadelphia. They are unique in that they work directly with the families afflicted by cancer. Services focus on families or care givers that are in treatment for cancer and have children between the ages of 1-8. Cuddle My Kids volunteers are loving, kind and gentle people.
They are mothers, nurses, teachers and education or nursing students. They are educated about cancer and are compassionate in their approach to you and your family. A Cuddle My Kids representative and a volunteer can visit your children twice a week for one-and-a-half hours and provide enrichment programs designed by certified and extraordinary elementary education teachers. A volunteer can also drop off a Cuddle Bag to the family. This enables the family to have more privacy and utilize the same wonderful program and supplies inside their individual Cuddle Bag at their own pace. The goal is to offer adults a lighthearted emotional break from the stress of managing the disease with their children and bring much needed happiness to everyone during a very scary and confusing time. They believe that life experiences happen for a reason, but more importantly, that it is our reaction to these experiences that truly matter.

2009 -
In 2009, Laxers 4 Life will partner with the HEADstrong Foundation to share in Nick Colleluoris battle against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
All proceeds from the run will be donated to the HEADstrong Foundation.
Nicholas "Head" Colleluori was a true hero that defined the word "Relentless" in his battle against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Nicholas was an amazing person, an undersized athlete that was noted for his aggressiveness and character on the field. In his sophomore year at Hofstra University, after experiencing allergy like symptoms, he was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma, a vicious type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. He battled the disease relentlessly for 14 months, undergoing intense chemotherapy, radiation, a stem cell transplant, and experimental treatments.
He was a true inspiration. While sick, Nicholas counseled fellow patients and continued to workout on a regular basis. He possessed such determination and drive that while undergoing treatments he found the strength to participate in one last game in August 2006. Nicholas passed away on November 28, 2006 at the age of 21. Even though he is gone, his memory will live on forever with the HEADstrong Foundation. While Nicholas was fighting his disease he created the HEADstrong Foundation, it was his vision to share his illness with the public to raise cancer awareness and to help others affected by the disease.
Nick Colleluori, was a 2004 graduate of Ridley High School and Division I lacrosse player for Hofstra University. Nick may have lost his battle on November 28, 2006 but his vision has just begun.
The HEADstrong Foundation is dedicated to Nicks life. He drew the logo as he was waiting to go into the operating room for a procedure. Because lacrosse was his passion and he can no longer carry the ball, his family and friends will carry the ball for him. Please join our effort to bring Nicks vision to reality to promote cancer awareness, support research and help eliminate this disease.
Our Mission is to generate funds for cancer research, distributes grants and assistance to survivors of blood cancer, provides financial assistance to families that are experiencing the hardships of having a sick family member, provides scholarships and grants for students with ambitions of entering the medical field.
